Nice compact release—230M with GQA and a 2,048-token context is a useful size point. I verified the model repo is public and tagged with the three stated dataset sources; for reproducibility, it would be especially helpful to include the exact evaluation harness/version and whether the reported 40.4B is consumed or deduplicated token count.

@imaadd05 You’ve already shipped work people are excited about, and it’s fair to take a break or narrow your focus rather than decide everything from one rough moment. If you do continue, maybe pick one model and spend the time on a clear task-specific eval and a smaller, well-documented release; that gives you a useful signal and builders something concrete to improve.

Impressive systems result—especially the matched-init comparison. For the public evidence, alongside correlation I’d find paired absolute loss deltas (mean/max), relative error over steps, and optimizer-state or weight divergence especially useful; those distinguish “same learning dynamics” from curves that merely share shape.

Byte-level has been useful in my tiny-model tests too: a 4.90M-param byte-level GPT on a fixed 5M-char TinyStories slice reached validation PPL 1.0406–1.0632 across five seeds (mean 1.0462), though the samples were still visibly degenerate. So the tokenizer can be surprisingly capable, but low PPL on a tiny/overfit slice needs a held-out or broader test before treating it as language quality.

Interesting direction—especially for long-context agents. I’d report the 2-bit KV result as a small matrix: context length × decode tok/s × peak memory, alongside quality at the same prompts and an 8-bit KV baseline. That would make the speed/quality tradeoff much clearer than a single aggregate score.

@AxionLab-official The published sizes/context targets can be made testable without making the context window itself add learned embedding parameters (e.g. with RoPE), but quality claims still need actual held-out evaluation. For a 150M/64K model, it’d be especially useful to report long-context retrieval/perplexity by distance and the exact token budget—curious what BGA/BM3X means in the implementation.
