Gemma-4-E2B-Portfolio-IT: Universal Context-Grounded Professional Portfolio Assistant
Gemma-4-E2B-Portfolio-IT is a post-trained, context-grounded conversational model built on google/gemma-4-E2B-it (5.1B total parameters / 2.3B effective active parameters via Per-Layer Embeddings).
It is engineered so that any professional across any industry—including Software Engineers, UI/UX Designers, Physicians, Attorneys, Academic Researchers, Architects, and Consultants—can dynamically inject their portfolio data (Markdown, JSON, or RAG chunks) into the system prompt to power a zero-hallucination, prompt-injection-resistant website assistant.

✨ Key Engineering Capabilities
- Strict In-Context Grounding & Graceful Abstention: Decouples knowledge from model weights. The model answers strictly from
<portfolio_data>, never fabricates credentials, employers, or metrics, and explicitly states when requested information is absent. - Cross-Industry Persona & Liability Guardrails: Trained across 6 professional verticals (Tech 25%, Creative 20%, Healthcare 20%, Legal/Finance 15%, Academia 10%, Services 10%). Automatically enforces domain liability boundaries—refusing to diagnose medical symptoms on a physician's portfolio or offer legal counsel on an attorney's portfolio while redirecting visitors to official booking links.
- On-Demand Guardrail Reasoning (
<|think|>): Omits<|channel>thoughtblocks during standard Q&A (enable_thinking=False) for instant Time-to-First-Token (TTFT), while activating structured reasoning traces when<|think|>is enabled to neutralize prompt injections, false premises, and privacy traps. - Dual Output Modes (Clean Markdown & Strict JSON): Supports natural, zero-fluff prose (
output_format: markdown) or deterministic JSON payloads (output_format: json) withanswer,referenced_items, andfollow_up_suggestionskeys for rich frontend UI components.

📊 Training Pipeline & Quantitative Evaluation
Two-Stage Post-Training Architecture
The model was trained using Unsloth and Hugging Face TRL on unsloth/gemma-4-E2B-it-unsloth-bnb-4bit:
- Architecture Isolation: Froze the 2.35B Per-Layer Embedding (
embed_tokens_per_layer) lookup table and multimodal encoders (vision_tower,audio_tower), applying LoRA (r=32, lora_alpha=32, lora_dropout=0) exclusively to the 7 active text linear projections (q_proj, k_proj, v_proj, o_proj, gate_proj, up_proj, down_proj—48,316,416trainable parameters /1.03%). - Stage 1 — Supervised Fine-Tuning (QLoRA SFT): Trained for 1 epoch (309 steps, effective batch size 16, cosine LR
2e-4) across 4,936 curated and BGE-deduplicated SFT examples. Applied completion-only loss masking (train_on_responses_only), masking ~85.4% of prompt tokens (-100) so 100% of gradient updates focused on<|turn>modelcompletions.- Final SFT Training Loss:
0.7735| Final SFT Validation Loss:0.8562| Peak VRAM:7.05 GB
- Final SFT Training Loss:
- Stage 2 — Direct Preference Optimization (DPO): Aligned on 1,200 stratified preference pairs (150 steps, effective batch size 8, cosine LR
5e-6, $\beta = 0.1$) targeting 5 specific failure modes: subtle metric hallucinations, sycophantic false-premise agreement, robotic AI boilerplate, privacy/liability leaks, and verbose walls of text.- Final DPO Training Loss:
0.0161| Final DPO Validation Loss:0.0108| Reward Accuracy:100.0%| Reward Margin:+6.42
- Final DPO Training Loss:
Held-Out Benchmark Results
Evaluated on unseen held-out test portfolios (temperature=0.2, top_p=0.95, top_k=64):
| Benchmark Metric | Score | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Zero-Fluff Tone Compliance | 100.0% | Zero instances of robotic filler ("As an AI", "Certainly!", "Based on the provided context") |
| Strict JSON Schema Validity | 100.0% | Valid json.loads() parseability when output_format: json is specified |
| **Controllable `< | think | >` Activation** |
